What is Health Information Management (HIM)?
HIM improves the quality of healthcare by insuring that
the best information is available to make any healthcare
decision. HIM professionals manage healthcare data and
information resources - including your Medical
Record from every visit to a hospital, clinic, or other
healthcare providers.
-
Health: Includes everything from birth to death
and wellness to illness. HIM deals largely with patient
or individual-related data.
-
Information: Health Information is captured and
stored in a variety of media and forms.
-
Management: Stems from a knowledge of clinical,
management, and informatics principles, and is performed
by individuals focused at the strategic, management, and
technical levels.
The future outlook for the HIM field is very
bright, with increasing need for trained professionals.
HIM is one of the fastest growing professions, according
to national statistics.
